Game Recap: Volleyball Sweeps Trimatch

The Mustangs volleyball team finished strong on Saturday at the Lehigh Carbon Tri-match beating both the Lehigh Carbon Community College Cougars and the Luzerne County Community College Trailblazers in 3 game sets each.

Game scores against Lehigh Carbon were 25-8, 25-13, and 25-11, and scores against Luzerne were 25-9, 25-13, and 25-17. 

Coach Volpe said of the day, "The girls came out with a strong contagious energy that carried throughout the day.  I am happy with another 2 solid wins to add to our record."

During the matchup against the Cougars, the Mustangs were led in kills by the Mustangs' outside hitters, freshman Alex Griffin, who collected 7 and a .417 hitting average and freshman Liz Herezi, who added 6 with a .308 average. As a whole kills were spread across the board. The team finished with 28 total kills and a .212 average. Sophomore setter Nikki Reichert collected 15 assists and led in aces with 7. Overall the team collected 20 aces against the Cougars. Defensively the team collected 24 digs, 6 attributed to Reichert's attempts and another 6 from freshman Kendall Gazzo.

The team finished with an even higher overall hitting average during the Luzerne match, notching a .271.  Sophomore Briana Rodriguez collected 9 kills and outside hitters Herezi and Griffin added 6 apiece. Gazzo chipped in an additional 5. Also noteworthy, Reichert came away with 20 assists. The Mustangs collected 14 aces, 5 from Gazzo and 4 from Jennifer Casatelli.  Every single player on the team contributed defensive efforts and came away with solid digs, Gazzo and Griffin led with 6 each.

The Mustangs will be hosting the Divison II Monroe Mustangs on Monday Oct 1.
