Mustangs Keep Rolling... take down Williamson Trade 81-53
The Montco Mustangs men's basketball team picked up their 10th win of the season in a Tuesday night matchup at Williamson College of Trades. The Mustangs solidified an 81-53 win, after their 47-point second half propelled them to victory.
The Mustangs, who are now ranked 12 in the nation for NCJAA DIII men's basketball, got off to a hot start against Williamson, who drew in a large student section for this matchup. The Mustangs led 24-4 with under 10 minutes to go in the first half, but let up a few runs from Williamson's offense and exited the half with their 20-point lead cut to 8, 34-26. In the second half, the Mustangs came out firing. They were aggressive on both ends of the floor, making it hard for Williamson to gain any momentum downhill or get a good shot up. Montco didn't let Williamson see a single-digit deficit for the rest of the game, shooting 62.5% from the field to Williamson's 36.7%.
This very quickly became the Will Anderson game, as he was lights out from the jump. By the midpoint in the second half, the Williamson crowd was begging for Anderson to take a seat and get some rest, as he was unstoppable from the mid-range – doing #23 justice. Among these mid-range beams, Anderson managed a fast break throwdown that had the entire Williamson student section speechless, and the rest of the Mustangs activated.
Anderson finished with 26 points (13-15 FG), 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal. Matt Compas poured in 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks in this game, while Malachi Owens stuffed the stat sheet with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 4 blocks – an underrated effort from the Mustangs' forwards. The Mustangs turned to their depth in this one as well, as they were shorthanded in the starting lineup – Ty Jones got his second start of the year, putting together a nice game. Cris Dinolfi played 22 minutes off the bench, finishing with 7 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
Montco will look to move to 11-2 in their final game before Winter Break, in a matchup at Delaware County Community College (1-8) on Saturday, December 17. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
