Men's Basketball falls 60-58 to Sussex

By: Oliver Griffin

The Montgomery County Community College Men's Basketball team suffered their first loss in a nail-biter against Sussex County Community College on Thursday night. Montco drops to 4-1 on the season, snapping their 4-game win streak.

It was a heartbreaker for the Mustangs, battling back from a double-digit deficit in the final minutes of the game, only to come up just short of the win. The Mustangs got off to a slow start offensively, but kept themselves in the game with their efforts on the defensive end, even when it seemed the Skylanders just wouldn't miss. It was a 2-point game at the half, with Sussex County leading 31-29. The Skylanders opened things up in the second half, leading by 14 points at one point in the match, only to fold their lead towards the end of the game, as the Mustangs showed their resilience in their fight back. In the end, the Mustangs lost 60-58, on a Sussex 3-point shot that put the Skylanders up by 2 with just 11 seconds to go.

Despite the loss, Matt Compas was a dominant force in this game, putting up 21 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals, and a block. Will Anderson dropped 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Naim Walker pitched in 12 points, to go along with 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

Montco will look to bounce back on Saturday, November 19, in a day-matchup vs. Thaddeus Steven's College of Technology. Tip-off is at 12 p.m.
