Men's Basketball improves to 4-0 with 83-67 win over CCP

Montco Men's Basketball improves to a perfect 4-0 record on the season after a convincing 83-67 win over the Community College of Philadelphia (CCP).

In the Mustangs' most exciting game yet, they defended home-court in their home opener on Tuesday. Both teams brought a sense of urgency and intensity from the tip-off, setting up for an extraordinary atmosphere in only the fourth game of the season! Will Anderson got the offense going for the Mustangs early, dropping in his first three shots – all midrange jumpers, Anderson's bread-and-butter. Aggressive drives from Naim Walker and baseline cuts from Matt Compas helped generate a quick-pace, allowing Montco to take the game into their control.

Although the intense atmosphere remained from both sides throughout the game, there was a massive shift when Ty Jones entered the game, much like Montco's matchup against HACC on Saturday. Jones provided a profound defensive presence that elevated the rest of the team's defense, absolutely stifling the CCP Lions and holding them to just 26 first-half points. With a 13-point lead heading into the second half, Montco did not take their feet off the gas. They continued to fight for every loose-ball and rebound, trusting the offensive gameplan and letting the offense come to them, even gaining a 21-point lead at one point, late in the second half.

The most emphatic play of the game came with just under 7-minutes remaining as the Mustangs held an 18-point lead: Will Anderson had just checked in after CCP free-throw attempts, giving Montco the ball out of bounds. CCP ran a full court press, leading to an inbounds pass to Ty Jones, who pushed the ball ahead to Anderson, with Matt Compas racing down the opposite side of the floor – just one Lions' defender between them. Anderson drove the ball up the floor and lobbed a perfectly-placed pass, allowing Compas to rise up and throw down a two-handed dunk, putting the crowd on their feet and giving the Mustangs a 20-point advantage.

The Mustangs completely dominated the glass all game, out-rebounding the Lions 45-28. Malachi Owens led the rebounding charge, grabbing 18 rebounds for the game – including 8 offensive rebounds – while also dropping 16 points and connecting on 3 blocks. Matt Compas led the Mustangs in scoring, pouring in 20 points and 5 rebounds in his best scoring game of the season thus far. Guard Ty Jones had 4 steals off the bench.

Another great team win keeps Montco's perfect start alive, and they've shown no signs of slowing down anytime soon! They'll look to extend their win streak to 5 games on Thursday, November 17, when they make the long trip to Sussex County Community College to face the Skylanders (0-2) in another 7 p.m. tip-off.
