The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs hosted the Community College of Philadelphia Colonials Thursday night in non-conference action.
The Mustangs opened up scoring for the night, racking up a 15-4 lead early on. However, the Colonials bounced back to close the gap to 15-11. The teams kept the low-scoring play close throughout most of the first half until the Mustangs ignited on the court, jumping from a 19-15 lead at 6:45 to a 31-17 at 2:27. The Colonials were able to shrink the lead but went into the locker room at half time down 25-37.
In the second half the Colonials played catch up with the Mustangs until they were finally able to take the lead 45-44 with 12:45 remaining. The teams exchanged the lead a number of times throughout the half. but with three minutes left, the Colonials held a 65-57 lead over the Mustangs. The Mustangs struggled to turn the fate of the game, but came up short with the 66-68 loss.
Tyreek Magruder led the Mustangs with 16 points, followed by Darryl Foye with 13 and Omar Askia with 10. Foye led the team in rebounds with seven, followed by Askia with six. Also giving a strong performance, sophomore Darnell Clowney tallied eight points, four assists and four rebounds in the effort.
