The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men's basketball team defeated the Atlantic Cape Community College Buccaneers 81-69 Tuesday evening.
The first half was a close match up for the teams, giving the Mustangs only a slight 37-34 advantage at half time. But in the second half the Mustangs rallied to dominate play, outscoring the Buccaneers 44-35.
"We got off to a slow start, but picked up the intensity in the second half," commented Mustangs Assistant Coach Darby Callahan.
The team's offense was led by sophomore Jah'lil Williams who snagged a triple-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Sophomores Darnell Clowney and Omar Askia contributed on offense as well; Clowney with 15 points and Askia with nine points and five rebounds. Freshmen top scorers on the team were Tyreek Magruder with 14 points and Darryl Foye with 10.
Callahan was pleased with the Mustangs' performance. "This was a good victory on the road."
This win over the NJCAA Region XIX Buccaneers boosts the team's overall record to 5-4. In the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference, the team is 4-1. Next, the Mustangs will travel to Middlesex County College on Thursday, December 6th for another non-conference, Region XIX face off. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
