The Mustangs women's soccer team tied the Bergen County College Bulldogs 1-1 Thursday.
The Bulldogs were the first to post to the board with a scorching shot just 8:00 into play. However, the Mustangs answered back just minutes later. Sophomore forward Liz Mencel passed the ball back to center midfielder Stephanie Martinez for the tying goal.
The teams battled back and forth in on and off rain, but neither could score the winning goal before the end of regulation time. The game went into double overtime, showcasing great scoring chances for both teams. However, the ball never found the back of either net and the match concluded in a 1-1 double overtime tie.
Sophomore goal keeper Liz Keegan notched 16 saves in the effort. Freshman Mallory Mugnier led the offensive charge with six shots, followed by Martinez with three.
"Our team worked very hard today," commented Head Coach Tom Haney. "We had real momentum at times but just couldn't seem to put it away. I'm looking forward to this kind of play from us in upcoming games."
