Game Recap: Women's Soccer Beats Camden 2-1

The Mustangs women's soccer team earned their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Camden County College Cougars Thursday.

The Mustangs started off the game at a sluggish pace allowing the Cougars to score at 32:50. The Mustangs played down 0-1 for over 10 minutes, but the team was able to regroup to score in the 45th minute and tie it up. Freshman forward Amanda Schultz knocked in a crossing pass from freshman Mallory Mugnier with just 10 seconds left in the half.

The late goal ignited the Mustangs who stepped onto the field with hunger for the second half of the game. The team was able to dominate much of the rest of play and finally pulled ahead at 71:01 as sophomore captain Stephanie Martinez sent a blazing shot over the goal keeper's head.

The Cougars struggled to make up the goal but were unable to tie it up, giving the Mustangs their first win of the 2012 season.

Freshman Emily McKay led the Mustangs with four shots and sophomore goal keeper Liz Keegan made nine saves.

Head Coach Tom Haney was thrilled with his team's first win of the season. "This team is talented and they want to work hard to put it all together. We started off a little slow, but today's win bodes well for good things to come."

The team will face Manor College at home on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
