Women's Soccer Ties Ravens

Reading, Pa. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs tied the Reading Area Community College Ravens 5-5 on Saturday, Sept. 18.

It was a slow start for the Mustangs, who came up against one major adversary in the first half of the game- the Ravens' no. 32 Brandy Alexander. On four separate occasions, the forward leapt out on a breakaway to score at 7:00, 18:30, 27:45 and 44:00, knocking the ball past Katelyn Martin each time.

The Mustangs were down by three by the time Malorie Waters put the team on the board at 34:00 with a feed from Carla Sirak. Four minutes later, Sydney Ryan closed the gap further, to a score of 2-3 with a goal off a ball from Jeannine Mason.

But ending the first half at a deficit of 2-4, Mustangs Head Coach Tim McNally knew he needed to make some adjustments.

Stepping out onto the field with a new plan set in motion, the Mustangs blazed into an offensive frenzy, outshooting the Ravens 17-2. Mason knocked one in off a direct kick three and a half minutes into the second half, then eight minutes later, fed a ball to Waters to tie up the game at 4 apiece.

The Ravens scrambled to regain their lead, but Waters put one in for the Mustangs at 71:42, tallying a hat trick to give her team the lead.

Trailing 4-5 the Ravens' Alexander stepped it up in the midfield and was able to get loose for oen final breakaway with five minutes left in the game. She sunk one in behind Martin on a one v. one to end the match in a 5-5 tie.

The Mustangs are now 1-4-1 overall and 1-3-0 in the NJCAA.
