Late Goal Puts Middlesex Past Women's Soccer
Blue Bell, Pa. � In back and forth action, the Middlesex County College Colts slid past the Montgomery County Community College Mustangs 5-4 in the Sept. 9 contest.
The Mustangs scored first and took the lead three times in the first half. Jumping out to an early lead over the Colts, Mustangs sophomore forward Jeannine Mason scored off a pass from sophomore Carla Sirak at 3:30 into the first half. However, the Colts answered back to tie up the game at one a piece. At 15:09 the Mustangs once again took the lead with goal by Alex Caizzo, but once again, the Colts were able to tie it up. Minutes later, Sirak found the back of the net for the Mustangs� third goal of the game. Up 3-2, the Mustangs worked to prevent the Colts from recovering the deficit, but were unable to secure the lead before half time.
Tied 3-3 going into the second half, the Colts came out saddles blazing to score and take the lead for the first time 29 seconds into play. The Mustangs were able to tie the score at 4-4 with a direct kick from Mason at 69:33. The teams battled, each going scoreless for the remainder of a game which looked like it was heading to overtime. But with less than three minutes left the Colts threw up a prayer of a shot which found the upper corner of the Mustangs� net to win the game 5-4.
Next the Mustangs women�s soccer team will travel to Cecil County College on Saturday, Sept. 11. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
