Mustangs Duel Knights to the Finish 74-62
Blue Bell, Pa. – There was no contest in a repeat performance by the Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women’s basketball team, who defeated the Central Pennsylvania College Knights once again and continued their winning stretch. The Mustangs held court, retaining the lead from the first few minutes and averting any significant advances by the Knights.
The Mustangs attacked in the first half, establishing a 10-point lead within minutes after tip-off and reaching a score of 16-6 at the fifteen-minute mark. Later during the first half, the Knights were unable to score on turnovers as the Mustangs continued to load points. Though the Knights fought hard to defend the net, they were unable to parry the Mustangs’ powerful scoring offense to recover the 18-point deficit they faced at the end of the half. The Mustangs starting lineup drafted freshmen Kristy Ragbirand Angela Branigan along with sophomores Janay Winston (Phoenixville), Mercedes Harris and, Carla Sirak.
Already positioned for victory in the second half, the Mustangs continued to overshadow the Knights’ offense by shutting down their attempts to gain any ground. The Knights managed to decrease the disparity in points, but the Mustangs prevailed in the end with a 12-point lead.
Mercedes Harris, a sophomore from Norristown, commanded the team with an amazing 32 total points. Fellow sophomore Janay Winston from Phoenixville followed with more double digit scoring at 21 total points.
The Mustangs’ record is now 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference. On Saturday Dec. 4, the team will tip off against the Gloucester County College Roadrunners.
