THINK PINK Night a Success for the Mustangs

Blue Bell, Pa. – The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women’s basketball team presented the breast cancer research organization Living Beyond Breast Cancer with an over \$600 donation at their last home game of the season Monday evening.

The team sold awareness bracelets and fundraised for the organization throughout the month of January as part of the National Basketball Coaches Association’s PinkZone THINK PINK initiative.

The Mustangs donned pink shoe laces and headbands for the cause as they earned their 11th victory of the season with a 59-45 win over the Luzerne County Community College Trailblazers on Monday Feb. 1, 2010.

The Mustangs posted to the board first off the opening tip-off and never looked back. Building momentum off a few back to back Trailblazer missteps, the Mustangs were quick to secure a double digit lead which they held at 37-21 going into half time.

The Trailblazers rallied in the second half coming within 11 points of the Mustangs, but were unable to get any closer. At the final buzzer the Mustangs walked away with the 14 point victory.

Leading the team in points and rebounds were Jennifer Kopsie (Plymouth Whitemarsh) with a 14-10 double-double, Mercedes Harris (Norristown) with 19 points and 7 rebounds, and Kaleigh Prough (Methacton) with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Prough was honored throughout the evening as the team’s only 2nd year sophomore.

The Mustangs are now 11-7 overall and 9-4 in the EPCC. The Mustangs will play their final game of the regular season on Wednesday Feb. 3, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. at the Community College of Philadelphia.
