Mustangs Defeated by Cougars 57-78

Schnecksville, Pa. – The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women’s basketball team lost to the Lehigh Carbon Community College Cougars Wednesday 57-78.

From the opening tip-off the Cougars took control of the game immediately putting the Mustangs into a point deficit. The Mustangs struggled to turn the tides on the Cougars but were unsuccessful in overcoming the home court opponent.

Trailing 25-40 to start the second half, the Mustangs fought hard to make up some ground on the Cougars. But the effort was not enough to close the gap. The Cougars ultimately put the Mustangs away with a score of 78-57.

A bright spot in the Mustangs’ performance was freshman forward Janay Winston (Phoenixville), who scored a career high 20 points and tallied 12 rebounds in the evening’s game. Teammates Mercedes Harris (Norristown) and Jennifer Kopsie (Plymouth Whitemarsh) also had a solid game, posting 11 and 9 points respectively.

The Mustangs are now 10-7 overall and 8-4 in the EPCC. Next the Mustangs will host the Trailblazers of Luzerne County Community College on Monday Feb. 1, 2010. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
