Mustangs Storm Past Trojans

Blue Bell, Pa. – The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women’s basketball team beat the Valley Forge Military College Trojans 78-34 on Thursday Jan. 21, 2010.

The visiting Trojans were greeted with a firestorm of offensive pressure from the Mustangs immediately off the opening tip-off. The Mustangs charged ahead racking up 36 points by half time, while the Trojans struggled to keep pace, posting 23 to the board.

But the second half proved to be less successful for the Trojans, as the Mustangs continued to pound the opposition’s basket. Taking a cue from the offense, the Mustangs defense stepped up the pace, shutting down the Trojans and allowing only 11 points in the second half.

Each member of the Mustangs’ team posted points, pushing the Mustangs to a 78-34 victory over the Trojans. Scoring leaders for the Mustangs were Mercedes Harris (Norristown) with 22 points and Janay Winston (Phoenixville) with 16 points. Also noteworthy was Hannah Burkhardt’s (AM Lindenberg) contribution of 7 points and 2 defensive rebounds in her first game back with the team in 2010.

The Mustangs are now 9-5 overall and 7-3 in the EPCC. Next the Mustangs will travel to Harrisburg Area Community College to take on the Hawks at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 23, 2010.
