Mustangs Softball: Mustangs Can't Match Dukes (Game 2)
Blue Bell, PA-- The Mustangs managed to close the scoring gap in game 2 of the non-conference doubleheader against the Cumberland County College Dukes, only to fall short three runs on Tuesday, April 18th. The final score was 12-9.
The Mustangs collected 12 hits compared to Dukes 10 and still made some great plays.
In the first, the Mustangs scored 2 runs. While Sophomore Anna Morgan #12 (Plymouth Whitemarsh/ Liberal Studies) was at bat, Freshman Shannon Lee #3 (Souderton High School/ Phys Ed. & Health) scored on steal of home and Sophomore Alison Henning #9 (Norristown High School/ Business Administration) stole thrid.
Morgan hit a sacrifice fly to left fielder, allowing Henning to score the Mustangs' second run.
Sophomore Emma Hagel #1 (Norristown High School/ Business Administration) singled on a fly ball to left field in the second. Hagel later scored when Angelina Capozzi #11 (Methacton High School/ Liberal Studies) singled on a hard ground ball to center field.
Freshman Haylie Brass #4 (Upper Dublin High School/ Liberal Studies) scored off a wild pitch in the fourth.
The Mustangs knotted the game up at seven in the bottom of the fifth inning. A single by Brass allowed Anna Robinson #5 (Plumstead Christian Academy/ Hospitatlity Management) to score.
With two outs in the fifth inning Freshman Yireh Byas #32 (Pottstown High School/ Engineering) drove in two runs when she doubled, allowing Hagel and Brass to score.
In the sixth, the Mustangs stayed in the game when Freshman Shannon Lee #3 (Souderton High School/ Phys. Ed & Health) scored off Henning's groundball. Robinson also scored when Freshman Siobhan Seymour #13 (Methacton high School/ Criminal Justice) singled a fly ball to center field.
Byas led the team in hits going 3-4. Lee, Hagel, Robinson, and Brass each contributed 2 hits in today's game.
The Mustangs now have a conference record of 4-2 and are 6-10 overall. The Mustangs next game will be at Lackawana College against the Falcons on Thursday, April 20th in a conference event. The first pitch will be at 3:30 p.m..
