Mustangs Earn Big Wins Over Trailblazers
Blue Bell, Pa. � The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs women�s softball team powered out two big wins over the Luzerne County Community College Trailblazers on Wednesday, Apr. 14, 2010.
The Mustangs won game one 21-4 over the Trailblazers, taking advantage of 11 walks issued by the opposing team�s pitcher. Mary Thornton (Wissahickon) had three hits and four RBIs, Janay Winston (Phoenixville) had four RBIs and a triple, Stef Lechner (Lansdale Catholic) had three RBIs, and Samantha Guertin (North Penn) had two hits.
In game two, the Trailblazers� pitcher gave up 21 walks and 18 hits, allowing the Mustangs to charge ahead to a 31-6 victory. Katelyn Mullen (Collegeville), Samantha Reeves (North Penn), and Katelyn Martin (Boyertown) earned four RBIs apiece, while Katelyn Mathe (North Penn) and Melissa Alpuche (Lansdale Catholic) each had three hits, one of Alpuche�s being a home run. Alpuche was also the winning pitcher in both games.
The Mustangs softball team is now 8-14 overall (2-10 NJCAA Region XIX Division III). Next the team hosts the Dukes of Cumberland County College for a double header on Thursday, Apr. 15. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
