Mixed Day for MCCC Athletics

Hot dogs and sodas were given out to the fans in attendance for the 2009 Mustangs softball home opener on Wednesday. What began as a picture perfect day for softball, ended with the team losing both games to visiting Camden County College 12-3 and 10-2. Starting on the hill for the Mustangs were Freshman Brooke Wilf and Collen Bancraft, with Kelly Gleason coming in as relief.

The softball team will look get their first win of the season next Monday at 3:30 PM at Cumberland.

On the other side of the sports complex, the Mustangs baseball team was at home verses Williamson. The outcome of the men’s game was dramatically different, as the Mustangs defeated their opponent 14-1. Jason Blain earned the win for the team, while Chris Lachenmayer and Eric Eldred each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. On offense, the Mustangs scored in every inning but the sixth, including a Jack Brucker two-run homerun in the second inning.

The Mustangs baseball team sits at 10-2 overall and look to continue their offensive momentum today, March 25, at Delaware CCC.

Beginning in September 2009, the Mustangs will compete in soccer, basketball, baseball and softball as members of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in Region 19 and the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference (EPCC). During the 2008-2009 season, the teams will compete as extramural clubs.
