Men's soccer hosted NJCAA Division I Rowan College at Burlington County on Thursday. Depending on playoff seeding, the Mustang sophomores were probably playing their last home match in a Mustang uniform. The drive to win was in their eyes.
The Barons came out very strong, dominating time of possession in the first half. However, sophomore captain and centerback Conner Kristoff (Upper Moreland) kept his defense aware and allowed only one goal in the first 40 minutes. However, the defense could only do so much, and the Barons pushed two goals through right at the end of the half.
The offense for the Mustangs didn't get too many opportunities, but another sophomore, Elias Gehman (Christopher Dock) took advantage of his opportunities and created a few chances. Leading goal scorer Chakubuta Tuhenya (FR, Springfield) also kept the offensive attack up. However, the Mustangs couldn't get anything going on offense and ultimately lost the match 3-0.
Zachary Kovatch (FR, Boyertown) was another highlight for the Mustangs, not allowing a goal in the second half and finishing the game with 7 saves. A few of those saves required outstanding athleticism from the goalkeeper.
The Mustangs will finish the regular season on Tuesday, when they take on Region XIX powerhouse Rowan College of South Jersey - Gloucester.
