Men's soccer took to the field at The Proving Grounds on Tuesday for their first game on turf this season. The Delaware County Community College Phantoms were ready for a fight.
The first half proved to be the better half for the Mustangs, as the team was very strong defensively. However, offensively, the Mustangs couldn't get past the strong Delco defense.
In the second half, the Phantoms capitalized on some sloppy play from the Mustangs to take a few more opportunities. Some clutch saves from goalkeeper Zachary Kovatch (FR, Boyertown) kept the Mustangs in the game and allowed the game to end in a 0-0 tie after regulation.
This meant that two 10-minute, golden goal overtime periods would have to be played. Again the Phantom attack was relentless, and again the Mustang defense just barely pulled through. Finally, after both overtime periods, the Mustangs had managed to escape with a 0-0 draw.
The still undefeated Mustangs will travel to Northampton Community College on Thursday to take on a much improved Spartan team.
