Game Recap: Men's Soccer Ties Northampton

The Mustangs stepped onto the field strong, dominating the first half by outshooting the Spartans 10-4. Four of the Mustangs' shots hit the post, however, bring the half to a close with a frustrating 0-0 draw.
The Mustangs played outstanding defensively, led by freshman Eric Sylvester, who face-marked the Spartans' strongest forward for the duration of the game. On the attack sophomores Corey Signore and Musa Ahamed pounded the goal with shots but could not find the back of the net past a solid performance by the Spartans' keeper.
Twenty minutes into the second half the game was called after lightning was spotted. While the Mustangs outshot Northampton 15-7, the match ended in a 0-0 tie.
"I am really proud of the way they played today," said Mustangs Head Coach Matt Giordano of his athletes. "This shows a lot of promise for the rest of the season. Northampton is a totally different team than last year and they really came at us with a quality side."
Coach Giordano is looking on to this Saturday's home opener against Salem. "We were unlucky at Northampton, hitting the post a number of times. That's just how it is sometimes but now we have to prepare for Salem."
The Mustangs men's soccer team will play Salem at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday Sept. 8th at the athletic fields at Montgomery County Community College's Central Campus in Blue Bell, Pa.
