Game Recap: Win Earns Men's Soccer No 3 Seed in Playoffs

The Mustangs men's soccer team qualified for the NJCAA Region 19 playoffs with a big win over the Northampton Community College Spartans Thursday. The team will enter post-season play as the No 3 seed in the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC).

The Mustangs jumped out to a great start, getting aggressive and dominating play from the opening whistle. The team created strong scoring opportunities but had difficulty finishing in the first half. After 45:00 neither team had scored.
However, the second half proved much more successful for the Mustangs, who scored two goals to defeat the Spartans 2-1.
Freshman Joshua Cho scored first for the Mustangs just eight minutes into the second half. He one-timed a ball into the net off a cross from sophomore teammate Corey Signore, to put the Mustangs up 1-0.
Seven minutes later, the Spartans answered back with the 1-1 equalizer, scoring off a shot that bobbled just past sophomore goalkeeper Edgar Ojeda.
The Mustangs knew that tying the game was not an option. Earlier in the season the Mustangs and the Spartans tied 0-0, but this time around the Mustangs needed a win to secure a high seeding in the playoffs. Determined to come out ahead, the Mustangs turned up the heat on the Spartans.
The home team won a number of scoring chances as they continued to press the Spartans. With 15 minutes left in the game, Signore took a corner kick from the left side of the field. The ball dropped into the box, where Cho headed it towards the far post. Freshman Anthony Defrancesco was in position to knock it in for the game-winning goal.

"I'm really pleased with the way we played today," commented Mustangs Head Coach Matt Giordano. "We got the result we needed against a good team. If we play this way during the playoffs, I don't see any team beating us."
