The Mustangs men's soccer team traveled to Bucks County Community College to take on the Centurions Thursday.
The teams battled back and forth in the first half of the game, but neither squad was able to muster up any significant scoring chances.
Going into the second half tied up at 0-0, the Mustangs knew they had to come out hard to win the game. However, the Centurions stepped on the field ready for the challenge and ended up securing possession of the ball for most of the period.
Just five minutes into play, the Centurions knocked in their first goal. Eight minutes later, they scored a second. The Mustangs rallied for some offensive pressure but could not break through the Centurions defense.
With about ten minutes left in play, the Bucks County team sealed the Mustangs' fate with a third and final goal to win the match up 3-0.
Mustangs Head Coach Matt Giordano noted that the game was disappointing. "Our level of play is really inconsistent from one game to the next," commented Giordano. "The EPAC (Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference) boasts a lot of talented teams and we really have to fight for every win."
Giordano saw a silver lining in the loss with the performance of his reserve players. "I'm proud of our reserves and they way the stuck it out and fought for every ball. I'm really proud of those guys."
Giordano and his coaching staff will be busy preparing for the team's next game against Manor College on Tuesday. "After our team's performance today, we're going to have to meet and revisit some of our tactics and player selection for these upcoming match ups. We can't just show up and expect to win."
