Vikings Slide Past Men's Soccer

Toms River, N.J. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men's soccer team lost to the Ocean County College Vikings 0-1 Thursday.

The Vikings stepped onto the field with aggression but the Mustangs were able to stave off multiple offensive thrusts with a solid backfield. Midfielders Ali Ali and Brian Maguire dropped back into the Mustangs' defensive end to help absorb the Vikings attack. The strategy proved successful as the teams went into half time tied 0-0.

In the second half the Mustangs were able to maintain a solid defense, while sending up attacks led by Nick Igbokwe. The set up created a number of close scoring chances for the Mustangs. However, 20 minutes into the second half, Mustangs goal keeper Dario Verdin lost the ball in the sun in the middle of a Vikings corner kick, resulting in a goal for the Vikings. The Mustangs squad fought to come from behind, the team's best chance coming off a shot from Igbokwe at 85:00 that went just wide of the net.

Mustangs Head Coach Matt Giordano was proud of his team's effort. "Both teams played a great game. It was a fantastic match to be involved in. I am very pleased with our performance despite the loss."
