Mustangs Go Three in a Row
Blue Bell, Pa. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men's soccer team defeated the Bluejays of Manor College 2-0 on Tuesday Sept. 13, 2011.
The Mustangs started out slow in the first ten minutes of the game, but soon found their rhythm. After the faulty start, the first half was a battle between defenses. Both teams had exciting scoring opportunities resulting in multiple attacks broken up by heroic defensive plays.
One failed attempt after another haunted the Mustangs, but finally at 43:25 JJ Natale was able to knock in a low hard shot off a pass from teammate Nick Igbokwe.
Going into the second half, the Mustangs were ahead by one. The team was energized and was able to dominate most of the remaining half. At 52:52 Natale scored again when he capitalized on a pass off a powerful midfield play by Brian Maguire.
Head Coach Matt Giordano was impressed with Natale's performance, but gave credit for the win to the team's defense. "I am very proud of our guys, not only for the win, but because we finally were able to earn a shutout. Goalkeeper Dario Verdin and defenders Phil Martin, Eric Laflamme and Mike Gallagher definitely deserve all the credit for our win today. Our defense gets better and better with each game."
