Natale Leads Mustangs to 4-1 Win
Newtown, Pa. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men's soccer team defeated the Centurions of Bucks County Community College 4-1 on Tuesday Sept. 13, 2011.
The Mustangs got out to a rough start against the Centurions, finding themselves down 0-1 within the first ten minutes of the game. In back and forth action, each team garnered shots on goal but the Mustangs were unable to find the back of the net until the 21st minute of play. Captain JJ Natale opened up scoring for the Mustangs with a direct free kick from 25 yards out, which landed in the far post.
Natale's goal sparked a fire in the Mustangs as the team headed into half time tied up with the Centurions. On the opening whistle of the second half, the Mustangs were able to step onto the field and dominate the game. Holding possession for the majority of the remainder of the game, the Mustangs knocked in three more goals, while shutting out the Centurions.
Natale scored goal number two off a penalty kick, while freshman Joel Obiri-Asare knocked in goal three off a cross from Kas Fazliu and sophomore Miguel Cortes punched in the fourth with ten minutes left in game play.
Natale has high hopes after seeing his team's second half turn-around performance. "We were sluggish in the first half but we got a break and capitalized on that chance. In the second half we played a great game and were able to put three more on the board. I have confidence in our team's ability this year. We are becoming a really solid program."
Head Coach Matt Giordano echoed similar sentiments. "Bucks is a very defensively organized program and they have some very talented players on their attack, which caused us some problems in the first half. I am proud of the way our guys stepped up defensively and offensively in the second half. They showed the tenacity we should have as a unit. It is also extremely promising to see some of the new faces on the team getting goals. It shows how much depth we have this season."
Next the Mustangs will host Manor College on Thursday, Sept. 15. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
