Men's Soccer Beats Centurions 1-0
Blue Bell, Pa. - The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men’s soccer team notched their first victory of the season with a 1-0 win over rivals Bucks County Community College Centurions.
The victory was a team effort, characterized by the full-field defensive pressure the Mustangs put on the Centurions.
The first half was evenly played and the score remained tied at 0-0, even though the Mustangs held a slight lead in shots. The second half seemed to be going the same until ten minutes in when Mustangs forward Ali Mohamed-Ali scored off a pass from Ahmed Faik. After the goal the Mustangs found themselves with numerous scoring opportunities, but were unable to convert to expand their lead.
The Centurions battled to make up the one goal deficit but could not make a come back. In the final minutes one Centurion forward got open for a six yard point blank shot, which was denied by Mustangs goal keeper Phil Martin. Martin played a phenomenal game, making seven saves and securing the Mustangs’ first shut out of the season.
The Mustangs are now 1-3-1 overall and 1-3-1 NJCAA RXIX Division III. Next the Mustangs will travel to Sussex County College on Tuesday, Sept. 21. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
