Vikings Defeat Mustangs 93-77
Blue Bell, Pa. – The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs men's basketball team hosted the Ocean County College Vikings on Thursday Feb. 2, 2012.
In the last match up the Mustangs won by a narrow margin, defeating the Vikings 79-72. The Mustangs were looking for a repeat performance but the Vikings were well prepared for the battle.
The Vikings scored first, running up an opening 13-4 lead before the Mustangs were finally able to gain some momentum. The Mustangs closed the gap and got within five of the Vikings, but the opposition struck back to lead 25-12 at the 10:00 mark.
The Mustangs crept up on the Vikings towards the end of the first half, coming within two points at 33-35 with three minutes left. However, the Vikings were able to hold on to the lead and sent the Mustangs into the locker room at a 37-43 deficit.
After the half, the Vikings made a strong start with an 8-2 run. The team was able to maintain a 10-point lead for the majority of the half. With less than eight minutes remaining in play, the Vikings started to pull away, ultimately clinching a 93-77 upset.
Point leaders for the Mustangs were Rasahn Brinkley with 18, followed by Omar Askia with 14 and Shaquille Graham and Darnell Clowney earned 13 apeice. Brinkley also notched seven blocks in the effort. Dashan Dyson contributed seven points and 10 rebounds.
