Montco Explodes for 37 Runs to Win Opening Series vs Union County
The Mustangs opened the 2026 campaign in dramatic fashion, bouncing back from a tough one-run loss in the opener to secure the series with back-to-back high-scoring victories over Union County.
Game 1 – Union County 7, Montco 6
Union County struck early with three runs in the first inning and added another in the second to build a quick 4–0 lead. Montco answered in the third when Asher Peterman sparked the offense with an RBI hit as part of a three-run frame that cut the deficit to one.
Despite out-hitting the Owls 12–5, the Mustangs struggled to convert opportunities. Union County pushed across two key runs in the sixth to extend its lead. Montco mounted a late rally with two runs in the eighth and another in the ninth but ultimately fell just short, 7–6.
Peterman led Montco with three hits and an RBI, while Brett Minnich added three hits and a run driven in. Tyler Herbein delivered a strong relief outing, throwing seven innings and allowing just three runs (none earned).
Game 2 – Montco 25, Union County 21
The Mustangs' offense erupted in game two, scoring 25 runs on 21 hits in a wild slugfest.
Montco jumped out early with eight runs in the first two innings and never slowed down, highlighted by an eight-run seventh inning. Nearly every Mustang contributed at the plate.
Joshua Camacho led the offensive explosion with four hits, five runs scored, and two RBIs, while Mason Kishpaugh drove in four runs. Asher Peterman added four RBIs and Mike Strechey collected three hits and three RBIs. Brett Minnich stayed hot with three hits and three RBIs, and Matthew Spagna recorded three hits with a triple.
Despite Union County mounting a late rally, Montco held on to secure the win and even the series.
Game 3 – Montco 12, Union County 3
The Mustangs closed the series with a more controlled performance behind a dominant pitching effort.
Mike Strechey delivered an outstanding start, striking out 11 batters over six innings while allowing just three runs (one earned). Asher Peterman closed the game with a scoreless seventh.
At the plate, Montco tallied 13 hits. Matthew Spagna drove in three runs, while Peterman added two hits and two RBIs. Joshua Camacho continued his strong weekend with three hits, and Minnich chipped in two hits and an RBI.
Montco sealed the win with a six-run seventh inning to put the game out of reach.
