Mustangs Honor Their Own on a Special Sophomore Night

The Mustangs took the court Thursday night against Lackawanna College for what was more than just another match. It was Sophomore Night, a chance to celebrate Despina Kourtidis and everything she has brought to the program.

Friends, family, and teammates filled the gym, creating a warm and supportive atmosphere that made the night feel special from the first serve to the last point. Though the Mustangs fell in three hard-fought sets, the energy never faded, especially from Kourtidis, who seemed to be everywhere on the floor.

Whether diving to keep rallies alive, challenging shots at the net, or communicating constantly from the back row, Kourtidis showed the same grit and leadership that have defined her time as a Mustang. Even in the toughest moments, she played with the kind of effort that cannot be coached, only felt.

Her teammates matched that energy, fighting through each set and backing each other up until the final whistle. The result may not have gone their way, but the night served as a reminder of the team's unity and the impact Kourtidis has had both on and off the court.

Now that Kourtidis is moving on, it is on the upcoming sophomore class of Mustangs to step into the role she has so perfectly filled, bringing that same fire, accountability, and heart to every practice and every match. Her example sets the standard for what it means to wear Mustang colors.

As the season winds down, the Mustangs look to finish strong over their final four matches while continuing to build their chemistry, confidence, and consistency. With many returning players who have already built valuable experience playing together, the team is poised to take the lessons from this year and turn them into momentum heading into next season.
