Baseball Sweeps Delco in Season Opener

BLUE BELL, PA. – The Montgomery County Community College baseball team swept Delaware County Community College in both team's season opener, winning 16-4 in the opener and 12-1 in the second game.
 
BY THE NUMBERS (Both Games)

  • Mike Kelly went 6-of-7 at the plate, including 5 RBI and 5 stolen bases
  • MacAuley Swenk 3-5 at the plate, scoring 4 runs, 1 RBI
  • Trey Livingstone 3-4, 2 runs; 4 innings pitched w 6 strikeouts
  • Hunter Hamlin 4-8 with 2 Homeruns on the day and 4 RBI
  • Tony Xanthopoulous recorded 5 strikeouts in 5 innings

 
HOW IT HAPPENED
In game one, the Mustangs bats showed no rust, after falling behind 1-0 in the top of the 1st they responded with 6 unanswered runs taking control of the game. The Phantoms would attempt to make a comeback in the top of the 3rd scoring 3 runs to make it 6-4 but they would get no closer as the Mustangs offensive firepower proved to be too much. The Mustangs went on a tear scoring 10 unanswered runs, capped by a Hunter Hamlin homerun to cruise to a 16-4 win. The Mustangs had several players spark offensive fireworks. Mike Kelly went 2-4 and showed off his speed on the basepath. MacAuley Swenk went 2-4, including 1 triple, scoring 3 runs and 1 RBI.  Trey Livingstone went 3-4 and scored 2 runs.  In addition to the offensive display, the Mustangs showcased terrific pitching. Tony Xanthopoulous recorded 5 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. Mason Gabel recorded 3 strikeouts in relief.


In game two, the Mustangs pitching continue to stifle the Phantoms. Trey Livingstone threw 4 scoreless innings recording 6 strikeouts. George Jacobs and Lance Templeton continued the dominance on the mound in relief.  Mike Kelly sparked the Mustangs going 3-3 at the plate with 3 RBI, and tacking on 4 runs. Francisco Tavares went 2-2 scoring 2 runs, with 1 RBI. The Mustangs were aggressive at the plate and on the basepaths stealing 8 bases in Game 2 and 17 overall on the day. The Mustangs aggressiveness would pay off as they would lead the entire game on their way to a 12-1 victory.
