Volleyball took a 6 game win streak to Brookdale Community College on Thursday. The game would prove to be a litmus test for both teams, as both teams were moving up the EPAC ladder this season.
Brookdale proved that home field advantage is real, as the crowd pushed them to a fast start and a 25-17 win. However, Montgomery was not deterred, taking the second set 25-22.
As close as that set was, the third was even tighter. Neither team wanted to lose, but the Jersey Blues barely pulled ahead late, giving them a 25-23 win. With their backs against the wall, the Mustangs fought back and took another close set, 25-20.
However, the Mustangs couldn't keep the momentum up long enough. In another must-win set, this time a must-win set for both teams, the Jersey Blues took an early lead and stayed there, taking the fifth and final set 15-7.
The 3-2 loss for the Mustangs was the second fifth set match they played and their first fifth-set loss.
Julia Kuneck (FR, John Hallahan) shined in the front line for the Mustangs, grabbing 10 solo blocks and 18 assists.
The Mustangs will have an even greater challenge on Tuesday when they travel to last season's Regional and Conference champion Harrisburg Area Community College.
