Recap: Mustangs Top Trailblazers In Straight Sets

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Setter/outside hitter Anna Mitchell registered 12 serving aces in leading the Mustangs Women's Volleyball team to a straight-set victory over Luzerne County Community College in Region XIX volleyball action on Tuesday evening.

Mitchell added 6 kills and 10 digs for a Mustangs team which opened the match with dominant 25-7 win the first set. However, the Trailblazers rebounded with an impressive performance in the second set and led the Mustangs at one point, 8-7. The two teams battled the rest of the way with the Mustangs clinging to a four-point lead at 21-17 before closing out a 25-19 triumph. The Mustangs closed out the match with a 25-11 win.

In addition to Mitchell, middle hitter Colby Shackelford recorded 4 kills. Setter/outside hitter Nicole Fusco led the team with 11 assists and chipped in 4 serving aces.

The Mustangs improved to 11-8 entering their final three matches of the regular season.

"This is a critcal stretch for us," said Head Volleyball Coach Rita Rivera. "Hopefully our girls are ready."

Rivera's squad travels to Division II Harcum College on Saturday for a Tri-Match with Harcum (16-4) and Lehigh Carbon Community College (7-11). The Mustangs close out the regular season at home Tuesday, Oct. 14 vs. Manor College (1-15).
