Recap: Mistakes Costly In Another Tri-Match Split

BLUE BELL, Pa. - For the second time in a week, the Mustangs Women's Volleyball team was unable to solve the team from Harrisburg Area Community College, as the Hawks swept the Mustangs in the first match of a home Tri-Match on Saturday.

Self-inflicted wounds were the story for most of the match as the Mustangs squandered opportunities to gain control. The Mustangs were defeated 25-8 in the first set before finding a rhythm in the second set. In fact, the Mustangs found themselves leading the Hawks 8-7 at one point in the second set and were later tied at 13 apiece.

But that was as close as they would come as the Mustangs seemingly gave away points and watched as the Hawks went on a 12-2 run to win the set, 25-15. The Mustangs dropped the third set, 25-10.

Setter/outside hitter Nicole Fusco led the team with 10 assists. Libero Mary Plunkett and setter/outside hitter Anna Mitchell recorded 10 digs apiece, and Mitchell added 5 kills.

The Hawks posted a sweep of the Mustangs at Harrisburg on Tuesday night, Sept. 30th.

The Mustangs bounced back later in Saturday's tri-match with a non-conference, straight-set victory over Community College of Philadelphia.

Despite a strong effort by the Colonials, the Mustangs swept CCP by scores of 25-15, 25-11 and 25-15. Mitchell recorded 8 serving aces. Shackelford led the way with 7 kills, followed by Mitchell with 6. The team leader in digs was Plunkett, who registered 11.

At 10-8 overall, the Mustangs host Luzerne County Community College on Tuesday night at 7 PM.
