Recap: Hawks Too Much In Sweep of Mustangs

HARRISBURG, Pa. - After a nice stretch of wins to open the season, Mustangs Head Volleyball Coach Rita Rivera and her squad have fallen on tough times against some of Region XIX's best. On Tuesday evening, it was the 11-4 Hawks of Harrisburg Area Community College.

To their credit, the Mustangs never backed down. In fact, they nearly pulled off a win in the first set before falling 25-19.

In the second and third sets the Hawks demonstrated why they are ranked third in the Region XIX standings, winning both by a 25-11 count to sweep the Mustangs.

Setter/outside hitter Nicole Fusco led the team with 6 kills and 10 assists. Gabriella Glaum and Anna Mitchell each added 5 kills apiece.

Other team leaders included libero Mary Plunkett with 15 digs and middle hitter Colby Shackelford with 3 serving aces.

The Mustangs are 8-7 overall, including a 7-6 conference mark. The team is back on the court Thursday evening with a 7 PM home match against Delaware County Community College.

Looking ahead to Saturday, the Mustangs will get another crack at the Hawks in a Tri-Match at the Central Campus in Blue Bell. That match begins at 10 AM.
