Recap: Despite Valiant Effort, Mustangs Drop Pair To Lackawanna

SCRANTON, Pa. - Playing in a rare volleyball double-header, the Mustangs Women's Volleyball team dropped both matches by identical 3-0 scores at Lackawanna College on Thursday evening.

In the opener, the Falcons outscored the Mustangs with set scores of 28-26, 25-12 and 25-20. In the nightcap, Lackawanna again outscored the Mustangs by scores of 25-12, 26-24 and 25-17.

In the first match, setter/outside hitter Nicole Fusco led the team with 5 kills; fellow setter/outside hitter Anna Mitchell added 2 kills. The team leader in digs was middle hitter Colby Shackelford with 6.

In the second match, Mitchell was credited with 3 kills. Libero Mary Plunkett led the team with 6 digs. Right side hitter Korinne Bryan led the team with 4 serving aces and added 3 kills.

"I give the girls a lot of credit," said Head Volleyball Coach Rita Rivera. "After losing the first match they came out in the second with great determination. They put their best foot forward and didn't give up, even when the odds were against them."

The Mustangs have dropped three straight and will host a Tri-Match Saturday at Noon featuring Northampton Community College and Community College of Philadelphia.
