Game Recap: Mustangs Shut Out Phantoms

The Montgomery County Community College Mustangs traveled to Delaware County Community College Thursday evening to compete in regular season conference play against the Phantoms, and returned home with a three-game win for the night. Scores were 25-9, 25-5, and 25-1.

"The Mustangs continued to apply pressure to the Phantoms throughout the match and pushed themselves to excel" said Coach Volpe. "Our mental game is really beginning to peak."

Offensively the Mustangs put up a .556 hitting average as a team. Sophomore Kendall Gazzo lead the team with a .833. She was trailed by fellow sophomore Liz Herezi who finished with a .750 and first year player Krysta Wellington with a .714. No one on the team hit below a .333 for the evening. Sophomore setter Jenn Casatelli dished out 20 assists in the effort and also lead the team in serving with 10 aces.

Casatelli said of the win, "We really flowed well as a team tonight."

As a team, the Mustangs collected 22 defensive digs for the night. Alex Griffin anchored the defense with five and was trailed by Gazzo with four.

The Mustangs will host the Harrisburg Area Community College Hawks and Luzerne County Community College Trailblazers in a tri-match this weekend at home. The matchups will be dedicated to "Go Red for Women," a division of the American Heart Association focused on bringing awareness to heart healthy habits for women.
