The Mustangs volleyball team sported pink shirts to participate in a breast cancer awareness match against the Penn State: Abington Nittany Lions Wednesday.
The Mustangs fought hard in the match up, but came home with a 4 set loss. Game scores were 19-25, 25-23, 23-25, 23-25.
Mustangs Head Coach Misti Volpe said of the loss, "Our girls were adjusting to a new line and I feel that even with that obstacle they did a good overall job of fighting hard. They are a very hard working group and I know they have the potential to really come into their own even with changes made over the past week."
Offensively three players tied in kills for the Mustangs. Nikki Reichert, Liz Herezi and Alex Griffin each contributed six kills. The Lions' solid defense kept the number of fills in the single digits for the Mustangs. Kendall Gazzo added five kills of her own. Reichert also lead in assists with 11 and aces with four. Jen Casatelli added 10 assists, and Marissa Raimondi added two aces to the offense.
Defensively three players dug in the double digits for the night. Reichert lead with 20 digs, Gazzo added 14 and Griffin notched 12. Libero Kelsey Kowalick lead on serve receive with 14 passes. Gazzo also had five blocks for the evening.
The Mustangs host the NJCAA Division II Harcum College Bears Thursday Evening in an EPAC conference match at 7:00 p.m.
