Saturday marked the first game of the season for women's soccer. The Mustangs were excited for their first varsity game since moving from club status in 2018. The Lehigh Carbon Community College Cougars were their opponent in this opening season matchup.
That energy certainly showed when, within the first two minutes, Nicole Hastings (FR, Wissahickon) scored a goal off of an assist from Mary-Grace MacDonald. The Mustangs used that momentum to blast in two more goals before the end of the first half.
Ultimately, injuries on the Lehigh Carbon side forced them down to having only 9 players on the field, eventually causing the game to end early. However, the mustangs would add two more goals before that point, bringing the final score to 5-0.
Eliana Weiler (FR, Cheltenham) had 2 goals and an asisst in her first start, making her one of the Mustang Athletes of the Week. This start was also enough to get her named the EPAC player of the week.
Hastings finished the game with two goals.
Thursday, September 12th is the next game for the Mustangs. This time, they'll be moving to The Proving Grounds, the home field for all Mustang soccer games this season.
