Game Recap: Five Second-Half Goals Doom Mustangs In A 6-1 Loss

BLUE BELL, Pa. -  Marisa Christensen scored her third goal of the season to give the Mustangs an early lead, but the Lady Cougars of Camden County College broke open a tie game with five second-half goals en route to a 6-1 win over the host Mustangs in Region XIX soccer action on Wednesday afternoon.

Both teams played the game with 10 players and traded scoring opportunities throughout the match.

Christensen, who scored a pair of goals on Tuesday, booted a 35-yard direct free kick to the high left side past Lady Cougars' goalkeeper Dorissa Riley to give the Mustangs the early 1-0 lead at the 16:25 mark.

Late in the first half, in the 37th minute, the Lady Cougars' Allison Federico put a shot toward the net which hit off the right foot of the Mustangs' Blanca Anoushian and past goalkeeper Heather Spotts.

Unfortunately, that bad bounce was a sign of things to come.

Three minutes into the second half, Federico scored to give the Lady Cougars a 2-1 lead.

It was a lead they would not relinquish, though the Mustangs had their chances, including another free kick by Christensen, which sailed over the net.

The momentum seemed to shift for good at the 67:20 mark when, with the Lady Cougars ahead 3-1, the Mustangs' Julie Primavera was tackled in the box and the home team was  awarded a penalty shot.

Christensen was front and center with a chance to pull the Mustangs to within a goal. She aimed for the bottom right corner but was denied by Camden County College's Riley, who who dove and deflected the ball wide.

The Lady Cougars added three more goals in the final 15 minutes of the match and walked off the pitch with their second victory of the season. The Mustangs dropped to 0-5 on the season, with a game on tap Thursday at 3:30 PM at Bucks County Community College.
