The Mustangs women's soccer team fell 0-5 to the Brookdale Community College Jersey Blues Saturday.
The Mustangs were short staffed due to injuries and took on the Jersey Blues with no substitutes on the bench.
The Mustangs staved off the Jersey Blues' offensive assault for over 10 minutes before the team finally got on the board with a goal from Chelsea James at 12:55. The Jersey Blues were held to a 1-0 lead until Devon Carney knocked in a penalty shot with less than five minutes left in the half.
Down 0-2 going into the second half, the Mustangs were still optimistic that they could turn the game around. But a goal by Megan Goldstein less than five minutes into play secured a 3-0 lead for the Jersey Blues and put the Mustangs in a tough spot.
The Mustangs fought back with a number of breakaway runs and three near misses but could not break the shut out. The Jersey Blues were able to post two more to the board, one from Keara Homan and a second from Goldstein, before the final horn.
The Mustangs walked away with a 0-5 loss, putting the team's record at 3-5-2 in the conference and eliminating any chance of making playoffs. The Mustangs' final home game is on October 16th at 4:00 p.m. against Union County College.
