Coach McDonnell enters his third season as the Head Basketball Coach of the Lady Mustangs. Last year’s team had plenty of glaring accomplishments including, finishing second in the EPAC with an 8-2 record; tallying their first playoff victory since the 2011/12 season; Conference Coach of the Year Honors; 4 players named to the "All Conference Academic Team"; and 1 player selected to the “EPAC All Conference Team”. The Lady Mustangs return 4 sophomores, who all were major contributors to last years team, and welcomes a solid recruiting class of 5 or 6 freshman. McDonnell again expects to be competing for the EPAC Title.
McDonnell has been involved with basketball as a player and coach for the last 30 years. A native of Hollidaysburg PA, he was the starting point guard for his alma mater, the Hollidaysburg Golden Tigers. He led his team in assists and steals for two consecutive years. He attended Saint Francis University, where he competed at the Division I level for the Red Flash Tennis Team and in 1992 was named to the Academic All American Team.
After school, McDonnell returned to Hollidaysburg as an assistant for the boys' basketball team, where he remained for 10 years. In those years he was part of two district titles and one state playoff appearance. He was also very instrumental in starting Hollidaysburg's Elementary Basketball Program. In 2006 Mark, his wife Shannon, and their 5 children moved to Southeastern PA where he developed and operated a basketball skills and fundamental program for children ages 5-18. In 2014 McDonnell joined Division II "powerhouse", Holy Family University Women's Basketball Team as an assistant, where they went 21-10, won the CCAC Conference, and beat the # 1 seeded team in the first round of the playoffs.
McDonnell has a degree in Sociology and a teaching certificate from Saint Francis University. He currently resides with his family in Phoenixville, PA.
