Recap: Winless In December As Women Drop 4th Straight

WAYNE, Pa. - It was a night to forget as the women's basketball team lost 76-32 at Division II Valley Forge Military College in Region XIX action action Thursday evening.

The loss was the Mustangs' fourth straight and second at the hands of the Trojans this month. VFMC posted a 63-40 win on Dec. 3 at the Blue Bell campus.

Muck like the prior meeting the Trojans jumped on the Mustangs early and took a 35-23 lead into the locker room at halftime. However, Montgomery managed just nine second-half points while allowing 41 in what became a rout.

"I don't think it was a lack of effort on our part," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Francine Roseman. "It was just one of those nights, and there's been a number of those this season unfortunately."

Montgomery connected on 11 field goals in the game, including three from beyond the arc, and converted just 7 of 18 opportunities from the foul line. VFMC converted 31 of its 70 field goals and was an impressive 70 percent on free throws (14-of-20). The Trojans got the better of the Mustangs in rebounds and Montgomery turned the ball over 27 times.

The Mustangs also failed to place a single player in double figures. Linda Sobeck and Jessica Spano led Montgomery with 8 points apiece. VFMC placed three players in double figures, and two of them -- Shana Owens and Beverly Kum -- recorded a double-double.

Montgomery's Alison Henning received a technical foul in the contest.

"Not the way we want to enter the break," said Roseman. "But there's no sense dwelling on this."

The Mustangs, sitting at 3-9 overall, are back on the hardwood on Tuesday, Jan. 12 when they host EPAC rival Lehigh Carbon Community College in a 6 pm tip-off.
