Recap: Morgan's Double-Double Keys 1st Win

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Anna Morgan posted a double-double and Hiba Elrhanjaoui grabbed 15 rebounds as Montgomery's women's basketball team netted its first win of the season, a 57-49 victory over Harrisburg Area Community College in Region XIX play Saturday afternoon.

It was a tightly-contested game with both teams somewhat short on numbers. Montgomery outscored HACC in all but one quarter and led the host Hawks 24-20 at halftime. The Mustangs increased the lead to six at 45-39 entering the final quarter and held on to snap their four-game losing streak.

Morgan led the Mustangs with 24 points and added 11 rebounds, while Jessica Spano added 18 points and seven rebounds.  Naomi Jasienski and Linda Sobeck each added six points apiece, while Elrhanjaoui chipped in three points to go along with her great work on the boards.

"Obviously, it felt good to get a win under our belt," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Francine Roseman. "The ladies gave good effort. That's been a consistent theme throughout the early part of this season. They hustle, play aggressive, and they never give up."

Montgomery shot 31 percent from the field, while HACC finished the game at 28 percent. The Mustangs converted one of three from beyond the arc, while the Hawks attempted 10 and drained only one.

The Hawks were significantly better from the foul line, converting 50 percent of their opportunities to the Mustangs' 26 percent. And for the game, Harrisburg outrebounded its counterpart by a 44-37 count.

The Mustangs host EPAC rival Northampton Community College on Tuesday in a 6 pm tip-off.
