Recap: Missed Opportunities As Cougars Slip Past Mustangs, 58-48

SCHNECKSVILLE, Pa. - Montgomery's women's basketball team was outscored by 13 points over the final two quarters as it fell 58-48 on the road at Lehigh Carbon Community College in Region XIX play Tuesday evening.

Anna Morgan scored a team-high 16 points and Linda Sobeck added 11 in a game the Mustangs led 26-23 at halftime.

"We had our chances," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Francine Roseman. "We just couldn't get our shots to fall."

Indeed it was an off-night shooting for the Mustangs.

Jessica Spano, who posted double figures in the team's first three games, scored just six points against the Cougars. She did, however, grab a game-high 13 rebounds. Celina Fital scored a game-high 21 points to pace Lehigh Carbon.

As a team Montgomery shot 20 percent from the field. Lehigh Carbon more than doubled that output, shooting just over 47 percent. The Mustangs converted four of six shots from three-point range and made half of their 16 free-throw attempts.

Montgomery outrebounded the home team 41-32 thanks in part to nine rebounds from Morgan and another seven from Hiba Elrhanjaoui.

The Mustangs committed 14 less turnovers, yet it was the Cougars walking off the court victorious.

"The game was there for the taking," Roseman said. "We were unable to finish."

The team is off until Saturday when they travel to Harrisburg Area Community College for a 1 pm tip-off against the Hawks.
