Recap: Night To Forget As Women Dooubled Up In Loss To RCGC

BLUE BELL, Pa. - It was a forgettable home opener for the women's basketball team which shot just 19 percent from the field en route to a 76-38 loss to Rowan College at Gloucester County in Region 19 play on Thursday night.

Much like the season opener against Atlantic Cape, the Mustangs started strong and trailed by just four at the end of the first quarter, 17-13. However, Montgomery made just one basket in the second quarter while the Roadrunners rattled off 15 points to take a 32-15 lead into the locker room.

RCGC outscored Montgomery 44-23 over the final two quarters and cruised to the victory while handing the Mustangs their second straight defeat.

"Tough, tough night," said Head Women's Basketball Coach Francine Roseman, reflecting on the lack of defense and the overall shooting from her squad.

A look inside those numbers: Montgomery made just 13 of 67 field goals, came up empty from three-point range and made less than half of its free throws (12 of 26). The Mustangs again lost the battle around the glass, collecting just 27 rebounds compared to 59 for the Roadrunners.

First-year player Jessica Spano and RCGC's Tiana Morgan led their respective teams in scoring with a game-high 20 points. Spano added 9 rebounds and 6 steals.

"We need to put this one behind us and get ready for Saturday," Roseman said.

In search of win #1, the women host Cumberland County College in a 12 pm tip-off on Saturday.
