Game Recap: Somers' Double-Double Not Enough In Loss To Ocean

TOMS RIVER, NJ - Freshman Alexandria Somers posted her second double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough as the women's basketball team dropped a 76-63 decision to the Vikings of Ocean County College on Saturday.

Somers scored a team-high 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds as Montgomery lost its second straight. Bryanna Lacey scored 16 points and Tayler Nicholson added 12 points for the Mustangs.

"The girls struggled from the start and really never found their stride," said interim head coach Francine Roseman.

Despite the slow start, the Mustangs trailed by just seven at halftime, 31-24. Somers then seemed to ignite the offense, scoring 18 of her points in the second half.

However, Ocean's field-goal shooting was the difference in the contest. The Vikings connected on 32 of 65 shots for 49.2 percent, while the Mustangs made 26 of 67 shots for 38.8 percent. Ocean also controlled the boards, pulling down 38 compared to Montgomery's 24.

Nicholson grabbed 4 rebounds for the Mustangs, while Colby Shackelford added 6 points.

After four straight road games, the Mustangs return home on Tuesday to face the Centurions of Bucks County Community College.
