Game Recap: Ranked Lady Colts Too Much For Mustangs In 82-44 Defeat

EDISON, NJ - It was a daunting task for the women's basketball team Thursday evening. Riding a two-game win streak, the Mustangs were overmatched in a 82-44 loss on the road against the Lady Colts of Middlesex County College on Thursday evening.

Despite the outcome, the Mustangs fought valiantly against a Lady Colts team ranked 10th in the NJCAA Division III.

"We continue to get off to slow starts," said interim head coach Francine Roseman. "The girls never gave up."

Middlesex, which led 46-24 at halftime, made the most of its opportunities all night -- both from the foul line and beyond the arc. The Lady Colts converted on just over 52 percent of their free throws and drained 9 of 15 shots from three-point range.

Montgomery actually held a slight edge in overall field-goal shooting, hitting on 18 of 47 shots (38.3%) compared to Middlesex's 32-of-86 (37.2%). The Lady Colts owned the boards, out-rebounding the Mustangs by a 50-33 margin.

Sophomore forward Bryanna Lacey led the Mustangs with 17 points. Alexandria Somers finished with 9 points and 7 rebounds. India Williams chipped in 7 points, while Kim Pessoa contributed 6 points and 7 rebounds. Lacey was also credited with 6 rebounds.

"We are continuing to improve," Roseman said.

The Mustangs return to New Jersey on Saturday for a game at Ocean County College.
