Mustangs Softball: Mustangs Trump Trailblazers (pt 1)

The Mustangs came out strong with their offense in the first double header for this week on Tuesday April, 11th against the Luzerne County Community College Trailblazers. The Mustangs secured the conference win, ending at a final score of 17-8. 

Initially Luzerne captured the lead in the first inning with a score of 4-3.

But come time for the second inning, the Mustangs took the lead for good scoring  five runs. Sophomore Linda Sobeck #19 (Upper Merion High School/ Early Education) grounded out, scoring one run, a runner stole home, and Freshman Catcher Anna Robinson #5 ( Plumstead Christian Academy/Hospitality Management) doubled off of Luzerne's pitcher #6, driving in two of the five runs.

The Mustangs also brought in seven runs in the third inning, scoring on a stolen base , 3 errors, a single, and a walk by Freshman Pitcher Haylie Brass #4 (Upper Dublin High School/ Liberal Studies).

Brass earned the win, pitching five innings, surrendering eight runs, 12 hits, and striking out three. She also had 20 first ptich strikes on the mound.

After Luzerne scored one run in the top of the fourth, the Mustangs also answered with one of their own.  Freshman Shannon Lee #3 (Souderton High School/ Phys Ed. & Health0 also helped lead the Mustangs to victory with three walks.

The Mustangs collected 11 overall hits. Sophomore Emma Hagel #1(Norristown High School/ Business Administration), Lee, and Robinson each collected multiple hits for the Mustangs. Robinson, Lee, and Hagel each managed two hits each to lead.

The Mustangs also tore up the base paths, as three players stole at least two bases. Hagel led the way with three.

The Mustangs have a conference record of 3-0 and overall record of 3-6. Check out game 2 to see the results.
