The Montgomery County Community College Softball team is looking forward to Opening Day on Thursday, March 30th.
The Mustangs will play away at Luzerne County Community College at 3:30 p.m. in Nanticoke, PA.
Elisa Novak begins her first season as the Head Coach for the Women's Softball program and comments, "We have been focusing on the fundamentals at practice and we feel very prepared to begin our season Thursday."
She has 12 student-athletes on the roster and asserts each player has a major role. Novak states, "We are looking for leadership from our five athletes that are returning from last season: Anna Morgan, Linda Sobeck, Emma Hagel, Hiba Elrhanjaoui, and Alison Henning."
Novak believes her sophomores can set a good example and keep the team focused.
As for the leader in the outfield, Linda Sobeck will hold down the fort, playing center field, along with Emma Hagel, Anna Morgan and Yireh Byas. Anna Morgan and Anna Robinson will split time behind the plate too.
"Each player has a big responsibility and will have to be ready to cover different positions considering the size of our team," states Novak.
The Mustangs will play 28 overall games this season, with 8 games competed within their conference. The Mustangs are members of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XIX and the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (EPAC).
