Recap: Women Drop DH to Northampton

BLUE BELL, Pa. - Montgomery's Softball team managed just four runs as it was swept by Northampton Community College in a Region XIX doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The visiting Spartans posted wins of 12-0 and 9-4.

After being blanked in the opener, the Mustangs' bats came alive in Game 2 with the team collectomg 10 hits. Leadoff hitter Julie Primavera drove in a pair of runs thanks to a pair of singles. Emma Hagel drove in a run with a double and Rachel DiBenedetto added an RBI single.

Antoinette Breccia and Allegra Schnitzel both doubled in the game. Breccia's two-base hit was part of a 3 for 3 effort. Schnitzel finished the game 2 for 3.

Northampton jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Montgomery cut into the lead with three runs in the home half of the second inning. However, the Spartans extended their lead with a pair of runs in the third and a run in the sixth. Montgomery managed a run in its half of the sixth, but that was it.

Linda Sobeck (0-6) took the loss as she allowed six earned runs and 15 hits. Defensively, the Mustangs committed three errors that led to three additional runs for Northampton.

In the opener, three errors again proved costly. Even more costly were 11 walks surrendered by Montgomery pitcher Allegra Schnitzel, who had limited the Spartans to just two runs entering the fourth inning. But things began to unravel in the fourth frame, and that carried over into the fifth inning.

Offensively, the Mustangs were held to just three hits, with Alison Henning accounting for two of them. The home team was held in check by Spartans' pitcher Sierra Flurer, who struck out six and walked just one in recording the win.

The Mustangs host Division II Lackawanna in a Region XIX doubleheader on Thursday at 3:30 pm.
